We are a dedicated non-profit social enterprise committed to transforming lives through medical intervention. Founded by an individual who understands first hand the challenges of living with congenital deformities, our mission is to provide life changing reconstructive surgeries to children and adults with treatable conditions such as bow legs, knock knees, cleft palettes, hip deformities and contractures. We focus mainly on underprivileged communities in South Africa and beyond, ensuring that those who cannot afford essential medical care receive the support they need to lead pain-free, mobile and fulfilling lives. Through our work, we aim to restore not just physical capabilities but also the dignity and hope of those we serve.
A Personal Journey. A Public Mission.
Reconstructive Support Fund (RSF) was born from the lived experience of a woman who understands firsthand what it means to be left behind by the healthcare system.
Our founder was born with a congenital deformity—a condition that could have been treated, had the support and knowledge been available. Instead, she grew up in discomfort, navigating a world that offered little understanding and even less help. As a child, she was met with delays, prejudice, and silence—experiences that left lasting scars.
Years later, the condition worsened—bringing daily pain and discomfort. Doctors could offer little more than pain medication, admitting they didn’t have the knowledge or tools to address her needs. Refusing to give up, she began researching and eventually found a specialist in the United States—a doctor who understood her condition and was willing to help.
But hope came with a price.
The quotation for surgery was in US dollars, far beyond what she could afford as someone living in South Africa. She searched for funding locally, reaching out to government departments and disability organizations—but no one could help.
She realized then that her story was not unique.
Having attended a special school and stayed connected with many of her classmates, she knew others were living with similar, treatable conditions—trapped by poverty, medical ignorance, and a lack of support. It struck her deeply:
“If someone had shared this knowledge—and the financial means—with me when I was younger, I wouldn’t be in this situation today.”
And so, she chose to become that person for others.
She founded RSF to be the bridge she never had. A resource. A voice. A second chance.
RSF exists to ensure that no child with a treatable disability is left waiting simply because they were born into poverty or met by a system that doesn’t know what to do.
Our founder’s story lives in every surgery we fund, every child we uplift, and every future we help restore.
